UNDER 16s MATCH REPORTS - SEASON 2006/07
SUNDAY29th APRIL - HORSHAM & DISTRICT UNDER 16 PLATE FINAL
REIGATE PRIORY (1) 3 HORSHAM CRUSADERS (0) 1
A great season for Reigate Priory under 16s finishing in their highest ever league position of third and bringing back the cup to Reigate. The match played at Broadbridge Heath FC was played in front of a big, largely partisan crowd following their local team of Crusaders. Despite this Priory overcame the sometimes hostile atmosphere and let their football do the talking. Horsham Crusaders started the better and it took Priory sometime to settle. In this period captain Peter Thomas led by example and talked the defence through this rather sticky patch. Gradually though Priory’s football began to do the talking. Joe Brown hit the post after a fine through ball from Martin Baxter, then James Leask had a shot blocked, Nick Preston went close, before Theo Spencer opened the scoring with a fierce low drive into the bottom corner to put Priory one nil up ten minutes before halftime. Will Ainsworth played a faultless game in goal comfortably dealing with all that was thrown at him. Playing into the wind in the second half Priory played a containing game with Martin Butcher and Fraser Macdonald commanding the midfield and Priory aiming to hit Horsham on the break. Mike Dowds was having a fine game getting time to get forward and support the attack and Priory’s play maker Joe Brown continually playing probing balls from mid field, Chris Jones was as ever dominate in the air at the back and it looked like Reigate had taken the sting out of Horsham. But fifteen minutes from time a great headed goal from Horsham put them back in the game and for a while they looked for a winner. Priory’s never say die attitude though helped them through this part and from Theo Spencers cross Nick Preston put Priory back in front when he swept the ball home to put Reigate two one up. A last ditch tackle by James Leask prevented a Horsham equaliser and a couple of minutes later Priory had the game won as Loius Kelly who had battled up front as lone striker all game controlled the ball, slipped two defenders and shot high into the net from outside the box to give Priory some breathing space in the closing minutes. Reigate could have added a fourth before the end when Nick Prestons shot following a quick pass from Saul Thompson just cleared the bar with the keeper beaten. All in all a superb ending to Reigate Priorys five years in the Horsham league, from finishing mid table back in the third division in their first season, to champions the following season as well as losing cup finalists, another promotion culminating in third position in first division and winning the cup this season. A big well done to the Priory lads.Reigate Priory: Will Ainsworth, Martin Baxter, Peter Thomas, Chris Jones, James Leask, Nick Preston, Joe Brown, Theo Spencer, Martin Butcher, Fraser Macdonald, Louis Kelly, Mike Dowds, Saul Thompson.
REIGATE PRIORY UNDER 16s SEASON 2006/07
REIGATE PRIORY 0 v 0 HURSTPIERPOINT
Reigate Priory hosted league leaders Hurstpierpoint on Saturday who needed to win to ensure they finished in top spot. Reigate Priory though who had themselves confirmed third position did all they could to stop this happening. Missing their leading goalscorer though Priory packed the midfield and restricted Hurstpierpoint to only one chance in the whole game which keeper Will Ainsworth dealt with. In complete contrast to this Priory had several chances but a fine goalkeeping display from the visting keeper kept them at bay. Theo Spencer went close with a long range effort, Saul Thompson shot narrowly over, James Leask saw a header saved as Priory dominated the much of the game. Fraser Macdonald and Martin Butcher ran midfield, Nick Preston crossing was another feature and the entire back four of Peter Thompson, Chris Jones, Mike Dowds and James Leask swept up anything that the visitors had to offer and still had time to get forward and support the attack. One great run from Chris Jones as he strode out of defence with the ball ran half the length of the pith and set up another chance for Priory. With only one game to go before the cup final Reigate Priory under 16s can look back on their performances with pride and if their Cup final display is as dominant as this it may see them lifting the cup next

REIGATE PRIORY 1 v 0 STORRINGTON
This was the battle for third spot in the Horsham and District league. Whoever won would claim that position. Reigate Priory who had never previously beaten Storrington were clearly up for the game and in the end ran out one nil winners. Priory started well and early chances fell to Louis Kelly and Jo Brown. In midfield Mike Dowds and Fraser Macdonald kept a tight reign on things and with Jo Brown and Nick Preston constantly prompting from midfield Reigate had the better of a fiercely competitive first half. Will Ainsworth in the Priory goal pulled off a couple of great saves to keep Priory in the match but as the game wore on Reigate kept their composure and when Jo Browns fine pass found Theo Spencer his terrific shot found the top corner to put Priory one up midway through the second half. Storrington came back strongly but the defence of Chris Jones, Martin Baxter and James Leask was superbly marshalled by skipper Peter Thomas and they held out and eventually ran out deserved one nil winners to clinch third spot.Reigate Priory: Will Ainsworth, Saul Thompson, Peter Thomas, Chris Jones, James Leask, Theo Spencer, Fraser Macdonald, Jo Brown, Louis Kelly, Mike Dowds,Nick Preston and Martin Baxter.

GREENWAY U16 0 v 2 REIGATE PRIORY U16
Reigate Priory rose to third position in the strong Horsham and District League and in the process overtook opponents Greenway. Having disposed of Greenway in the cup semi final a couple of weeks back this was a different prospect as both teams needed the points in their quest to win the league. This was Reigate Priory’s best defensive performance of the season as on a poor pitch Priory took their game to the home side. Baxter had an early shot blocked ,Fraser Macdonald hit just over before Jordan Price’s volley after good work by Jo Brown put Priory deservedly one nil up at the break as they had the better of the first half. Greenway came back strongly in the second half as Priory tired playing their second game in three days and Will Ainsworth in Reigate’s goal pulled off two super saves one diving smartly to his left the second a great tip over. The whole back four played superbly, Chris Jones, Peter Thomas, James Leask and Martin Baxter. Martin butcher and Fraser Macdonald worked tirelessly in midfield continually winning tackles in a bruising encounter. Five minutes from time Jo Brown won the ball shifted it quickly to Saul Thompson who found Nick Preston whose 25 yard drive planted itself in the bottom corner of the net a great goal to give Priory some breathing space in the closing minutes.

REIGATE PRIORY 2 v 0 OLD DORKINIANS
Reigate Priory were last beaten in a league game back in September and they comfortably extended this unbeaten run against Old Dorkinians. Priory started brightly and scored early on when Jo Brown scored from outside the box following a pass from Loius Kelly. They then failed to capitalize on this early goal as they peppered the visiting goalkeeper but he managed to save everything that was thrown at him. The midfield were in total control and Reigate scored their second when top scorer Jordan Price turned the ball in from close range after a cross from Theo Spencer. James Leask saw his header go narrowly wide and Chris Jones rose at the far post and headed just over but for all their domination they failed to add to the score. Fraser Macdonald hit the bar and Saul Thompsons shot was well saved as Priory continued to dominate. Late on keeper Will Ainsworth pulled off a couple of late saves to deny Old Dorkinians but in the end Priory ran out comfortable winners

REIGATE PRIORY REACH FINAL
Reigate Priory comfortably won their cup semi final in a match held at a neutral ground in Dorking. Playing Greenway, who themselves were in a rich vein of form and currently in 2nd position in the top division of the strong Horsham league, Priory dominated the early stages of the match and opened the scoring on 20 minutes when Louis Kelly cleverly chipped the keeper from outside the box. Reigate found themselves two nil up five minutes later as Jordan Price latched onto a mistake from Greenways keeper and turned the ball in from close range. Jo Brown and Fraser Macdonald ran the show in midfield well supported by Theo Spencer who forced a fine save from the keeper. But then a minute before the break a great goal line clearance from Martin Baxter helped Reigate turn round two nil up at the break. Nick Preston was having a great game on the right and his through ball found Jordan Price who struck his second of the game to put Priory clear at three nil. Louis Kelly added a fourth as Priory threatened to run riot, and Greenway rather lost their heads at this point and had a player sent off. This did not spoil Priory’s day however, and this fine performance was based on a dependable defence who all played their part, these being Chris Jones, Peter Thomas, Martin Baxter and James Leask. Michael Dowds and Saul Thompson also played their part and Will Ainsworth handled the ball well and pulled off a great save to deny Greenway at the last, but this was a deserved victory taking them through to the final at Broadbridge Heath on 29th April, but before then Priory have some important league games to contend with.

BROCKHAM U16s 0 v 2 REIGATE PRIORY U16s
Reigate Priory under16s had an anything but comfortable victory against Brockham on Saturday. Reigate, due to a mix up started with ten men for the first half hour and during this time Danny Welch making his debut in goal for Reigate pulled off two great saves to keep Priory in the game. Saul Thompson almost scored for Reigate after twenty minutes when slipped in by Nick Preston only to be thwarted by Brockhams keeper. Once Priory were up to full strength they took over control of the game and pounded the Brockham goal but only a fine series of saves kept the score goaless. Reigate in their push for the opening goal were getting desparate and their usual free flowing football was little in evidence as they got bogged down on a very heavy pitch. Reigate even managed to miss from the spot, as the Brockham keeper pulled off another fine save. James Leask and Chris Jones marshalled the Priory defence and Micky Dowds powerful runs were much in evidence. Eventually with ten minutes to go they finally broke the deadlock. A fine cross from Theo Spencer was nodded back across the keeper by Fraser Macdonald to open the scoring and relieve the pressure. This was followed very quickly by the second as Peter Thomas played in Jo Brown who raced clear of the trailing defenders and calmly chipped the keeper from outside the box. Only another finger tip save by Danny Welch kept Brockham from scoring as they pressed forward. This in the end was a deserved result as Reigate had peppered the Brockham goal for the entire second half.

REIGATE PRIORY 3 v 1 PARTRIDGE GREEN
Reigate Priory hosted 2nd in the B division Partridge Green in the cup quarter final on Saturday. The difference in class was noticeable from the start as Priory totally dominated and outplayed a lower division team. But, for all their efforts Reigate only found themselves 1-0 up at the break . The goal was sheer class. A sweeping move from back to front with no less than seven players involved in the move the final pass to Jordan Price by Jo Brown, Jordan beat two defenders in the box before slamming the ball past the visiting keepers who had already pulled off three great saves. Although Priory were clearly the better side Partridge Green put in a spirited and very creditable performance and can leave with their heads held high. The second half was a similar affair, with Priory creating numerous chances with Fraser Macdonald, Theo Spencer and Louis Kelly all going close before they killed off the visitors midway through the second half with two similar goals both involving Theo Spencers great work on the left hand side. His two crosses were both turned in by Jo Brown and Martin Butcher respectively. Will Ainsworth in the Priory goal pulled off a couple of saves late on but could not prevent Partridge Green getting a late cancellation goal. James Leask went close with a powerful header and Saul Thompson went close with a long range shot, Michael Dowds had some sparkling runs down the right hand side, but Priory were not to be denied a place in the semi final, a performance based on a solid defence of Chris Jones and Peter Thomas, well supported by Martin Baxter. Nick Preston put in some good crosses which Priory could not capitalize on and eventually they ran out comfortable 3-1 winners.

REIGATE PRIORY 5 v 2 BROADBRIDGE HEATH
Reigate Priory extended their unbeaten run to seven games as they overcame a determined Broadbridge Heath side whom they had never previously beaten. Priory’s first half display was their best of the season as they established a two goal cushion by half time thanks to their top goal scorer Jordan Price. Prices first goal was turned in from close range following a corner , his second a fine shot from outside the box that found the bottom corner of the net. Jo Brown and Martin Butcher dominated midfield and Loius Kelly’s surging runs where a feature of a first half Priory dominated. Martin Baxter had a great game at full back, finding time to get forward and help the attack. Chris Jones won every challenge he had as Priory’s superiority really showed. Louis Kelly added a third soon after the break scoring form the penalty spot, and then Reigate rather took their foot off the pedal as the game was seemingly won. The visitors quickly though scored two goals and Priory had to up their game again. The fourth goal was scored by |James Leask when he powerfully headed home a Theo Spencer corner. In the dying moments Theo Spencer got on the score sheet when he cleverly lobbed the visiting keeper. This was a great all round Priory performance and if they can continue to show their fine recent form can be up challenging for honours in the powerful Horsham League.

REIGATE PRIORY 1 v 1 MAIDENBOWER
Reigate Priory put in their best performance of the season when they hosted runaway leaders Maidenbower at Park Lane on Saturday. In a very entertaining game which Maidenbower dominated early on and most of the first half Priory were unlucky not to come away with a win following two late chances. Early on though Reigates defence was in fine form. The entire back four of Martin Baxter, Peter Thomas, Chris Jones and James Leask played extremely well as a unit and although under immense pressure from the start kept Maidenbower to long range shooting only which Will Ainsworth dealt with well, and confidently pulling off a great save towards the end of the first half. Man of the match Loius Kelly had a great game on the right side of midfield with some strong surging runs, good passing and some great defensive work. Jo Brown was constantly prompting from mid field and was ably supported by a strong tackling Martin Butcher. Jordan Price and Saul Thompson were lively up front and when Jordan Price opened the scoring fifteen minutes from time after a pass from Fraser Macdonald it looked as if Priory were going to go on for a fine victory. They could have doubled their lead five minutes from time when Jordan Price saw his shot well saved , but Maidenbower equalised two minutes from time. Theo Spencer saw his powerfully stuck free kick go narrowly wide and Fraser Macdonald almost scored after another defence splitting ball from Jo Brown as Reigate Priory finished the stronger of the two sides. After a great performance like this Reigate Priory u16s showed that they can match the best team in the very strong Horsham and District League and this extends their unbeaten run to 5 games. If they can continue with this form they hopefully can make a strong run towards the top of the league.
Reigate Priory: Will Ainsworth, Saul Thompson, Peter Thomas, Chris Jones, James Leask, Theo Spencer, Martin Butcher, Fraser Macdonald, Jordan Price, Jo Brown, Louis Kelly and Martin Baxter.
OLD DORKINIANS 3 v 3 REIGATE PRIORY
Reigate Priory under16s managed to earn a hard gained point after a visit to local rivals on saturday in the Horsham and District top division. Priory had an appalling start, letting in two well taken goals in the first 20 minutes. It seemed as if the Reigate side were going to go home pointless after a dire first half. At the interval Reigate realized that the next goal was vital and after a mazy run on the left wing by Theo Spencer his fine cross was powerfully headed home by Jo Brown, the first of his two goals. Reigate Priory assumed control from then on and the equaliser was not long in coming another header by Jo Brown. Fraser Macdonald saw his efforts well saved by the home keeper as Priory pushed forward looking for the winner. On a rare break against the run of play Old Dorkinians snatched a third goal and all looked over for Priory after their spirited come back. But in the dying minutes they saved themselves with a last gasp equaliser as Michael Dowds bundled the ball in from close range. This will be a lesson to the Priory Boys, that they have to play hard for the full 80 minutes.

REIGATE PRIORY 5 v 3 GREENWAY
Reigate Priory hosted last years division B champions at Park Lane on Saturday. This turned out to be a superb Priory performance, with some great attacking football from the Reigate side. Henfield opened the scoring early on with a long range speculative effort which found the top corner of the net. Priory did not let their heads drop and it turned out that this was the only attempt on goal Henfield had in the entire match. Although dominating the first half led immaculately by Jo Brown whose range of passing was superb, it was not until on the stroke of half time that after a pass from Lois Kelly, Jordan Price hat trick hero from last week got his first of another hat trick when he turned smartly in the box and found the bottom corner of the net to give Priory a very deserved equaliser.. The second half was very much the same, with Martin Butcher and Fraser Macdonald holding the upper hand in midfield Priory had almost total control of the match, the only danger to their goal was thwarted by a last ditch tackle from Martin Baxter. Midway through the second half Priory took the lead as Jordan Price swept the ball in after good work by Theo Spencer. Jordan Price completed his hat trick with another superb strike. This result now puts Reigate Priory up to 4th position in the top division of the Horsham and District League.

HURSTPIERPOINT 2 v 1 REIGATE PRIORY
Reigate Priory under16s had a rude awakening again to life in the top flight Horsham league. Against a physical and strong home side Reigate dominated the first 20 minutes and although Jordan Price and Jo Brown went close for the visitors they had nothing to show for their great start. In virtually Hurstpiepoint’s first foray in Priory’s half they scored with a superb strike from the edge of the box. Just before half time Will Ainsworth in the Priory goal made a superb save to ensure Priory only went in 1-0 down at the turn. Although the second half was more even Reigate could not force a goal and midway through the half the home side extended their lead. In the closing minutes Priory laid siege to Hurstpierpoint’s goal and eventually scored through Martin Butcher 5 minutes from time. They could not however force what would have been a deserved equaliser. This will be a lesson to Priory that goals win matches and for all their approach play they had nothing to show from their trip into deepest Sussex.

BROCKHAM 2 v 6 REIGATE PRIORY
Reigate Priory under16s had a comfortable victory over local rivals Brockham in this pre season friendly. On a superb surface Priory got off to the best of starts when Nick Preston scored after 3 minutes turning in Fraser Macdonalds cross from close range. It took until ten minutes before halftime when James Leask found Theo Spencer who stepped inside his man before shooting hard and low into the corner to put Reigate 2-0 up. This lead did not last long as Brockham replied quickly with a smartly taken volley from the edge of the box. They almost equalised but for a finger tip save from Saul Thompson in the Priory goal. Just before halftime Michael Dowds found Fraser Macdonald whose through pass was skied over by Ashley Smith. The second half belonged Ashley Smith scoring a well taken hat trick, as he tormented the Brockham back four. Jo Brown had a great game along side him up front setting up two of the goals for him and also holding the ball up well and making some great channel runs. Martin Baxter chipped in with another goal making it two goals in two games when he scored with a great shot from the edge of the box. Martin Butcher and Louis Kelly worked tirelessly in midfield with some mazy runs and strong tackling. Peter Thomas and Chris Jones marshalled the defence well.
